Simple As Could Be

DIY Little One Milestone Markers

Let me ask you a question – On a scale of 1-10, what would you rate yourself in terms of DIY skills? Honestly, I would rate myself about a 4 or 5. I’ve seen DIY Queens in action only to find myself dumbfounded at the masterpiece I’ve just watched be created. Let alone try to replicate the piece.

But to be honest, as bad as I am at it, I really enjoy it. I find myself trying to DIY almost anything I find interest in. (Trust me, lots of wasted attempts.) However, when I ‘successfully’ recreate a project, I am beaming with pride! So, with the fair warning I’ve just given you, get ready for some fun DIY projects in the future, starting with the subject of this week’s blog.

Milestones

I think of Milestones as a huge part of every person’s life. I’m sure you’ve heard the phrase, “The human body regenerates all of its cells in 7 years” therefore everybody must be a completely new person every 7 years. Well, that’s not actually true. Every human being is constantly changing and growing. Always. Which I why I find Milestones so entirely amazing of a subject!

If you think about it, we all start out with the goal of reaching the same Milestones. For example, 1 month old, 2 months old, etc. Then we move on to more Milestones, which again, we all have in common. For example, crawling, walking, 1st word, etc. However, as we all continue to grow and change into the unique person we are, we develop our own unique Milestones too!

DIY

For this week’s blog, I wanted to share how easy it is for anyone to create fun moments with their Little One’s Milestones. (Remember earlier when I said my DIY skills were a 4 or 5 at best?) Well, I decided to try a fun way of celebrating your Little One’s monthly Milestones other than the traditional blankets. This way, it can be more fun celebrating those momentous Milestones and even have a theme for your Little One!

Plus, let me let you in on a little secret – This project can be as cheap or as expensive as you want! Yet another reason I love DIY projects!

Milestone Project Supplies

I decided to make a Milestone marker for one of my best friend’s Little. It cost me a total of $9.45 including tax. But here’s the thing, the yarn I bought has enough leftover to create another Milestone with! You can even get crafty and use colored markers, sharpies, or paint pens and save a little more money!

You can add as much or as little embellishment as you want, and the themes are endless! I personally wanted to start with something easy and get more creative as I progress in my DIY skills. And yes, it really is super easy! It might just take an hour or so of your time. Plus, it’s fun! Just wrap your Little in a plain colored swaddle and use a neutral (or matching background) to take your photo!

Finished Milestone Project

I know my best friend’s theme for her Little, but I also wanted to start out on the idea that “Less is more.” So I bought some multi-colored yarn, a cardboard number 7, and got to work. In the end, I decided to leave some extra yarn on the sides and tie little knots to create a fringe effect.

Probably one of the coolest parts about DIY projects in my mind is that even if 2 people try to create the same thing, it will still have the creator’s own personal flair added to it! So I encourage you to find the inner artist in yourself and see what cool things you can create for your Little’s Milestones!
