It’s no secret that life is made up of a collection of moments over time. Decisions made, surprises that came, things are in our control and things that aren’t. I’m sure everyone’s heard the term ‘the mysteries of life’. But what if science could help us better understand those mysteries? What if there’s more to a coincidence than just merely coincidence? What if there really is something behind speaking things into existence and good things coming to those who wait?
Well, I’ll leave it up to you to make the final decision yourself. But let’s get into the nitty gritty first.
Coinkydink?
Everyone has had some sort of coincidence that has made them question coincidences. Sharing a birthday with someone you know, finding a long-lost relative, you get the picture.
But why do coincidences happen? Well, really they’re an inevitable consequence of the mind searching for structure in reality. This in turn allows us to learn and adapt to our environment.
When we go through life, we start to learn patterns and cause and effect. So when we notice something we consider to be a coincidence, it’s our minds paying attention to things that seem significant.
And when we notice them happening frequently, it’s because there are so many opportunities for events to unfold. Statisticians really just boil it down to chance and mathematical law. But I’ll let you be the judge!
Saying Is Believing
Everyone’s heard the term ‘seeing is believing’. But what holds true for speaking things into existence? Well, perhaps you’ve heard of the laws of attraction before.
If you haven’t, they simply state that 1) like attracts like, 2) nature abhors a vacuum, and 3) the present is always perfect. The first one suggests that people’s thoughts attract similar results. Therefore, if you think positively you should attract positive things into your life.
The second one suggests that by removing negative thoughts, something will have to fill that space. Therefore, removing negativity leaves more room for positivity to flow.
And the third one suggests we not focus on what is ‘flawed’ in the present. Therefore, by finding ways to appreciate the positives in the present, things are always as they should be. And even if they aren’t right now, they will become that way by using this technique. Again, it’s up to you to decide what’s what!
Good Things Come To Those Who Wait
Everyone knows that we live in a time of instantaneous results. From the abundance of info available on the web to ways to ‘hack’ life, we want it all and we want it now.
But, what is the science behind good things coming to those who wait? Well, when we break down ‘waiting’, it’s really just another term for patience. And science shows there are more benefits to patience than we give it credit for.
From better mental health to healthier relationships, patience pays off. But when it comes to achieving our goals, patience pays off in more ways than one.
It helps us learn life lessons in difficult situations and it can feel more satisfying when we’ve achieved a goal that we know we’ve worked long and hard for. If the results are instantaneous and short-lived, the reward is too. But I want you to decide for yourself!
Coming To Terms Vs. Understanding
The reason I used the term ‘coming to terms’ vs. ‘understanding’ is because in my opinion, we don’t need to fully understand something to come to terms with it. Think about it. A harsh breakup, the loss of a loved one, disaster striking – we might not ever understand why certain things happen. But people still choose to get back up and keep trying when things knock them down. And it might be that resilience that will help them come to terms with the situation they are or have faced.
