This Wednesday (March 3rd) is World Wildlife Day. And if you don’t know what that is, it’s basically just a day to celebrate to raise awareness about nature conservation and all that we can do to contribute. Each year dedicates a conservancy theme to raising awareness of a specific issue. And this year the theme is Forests & Livelihoods: Sustaining People & Planet!
The goal is to highlight the central role of forests, forest species and ecosystems services in sustaining the livelihoods of hundreds of millions of people globally. Particularly Indigenous and local communities with historic ties to forested and forest-adjacent areas. But, as complicated as that may all sound, it’s really quite simple!
This year, nature conservancy experts and amateurs from across the world will fight to raise awareness and efforts to protect the forests and people! And there are plenty of ways to get involve ourselves! From spreading the message to more responsible consumption, the list is endless. The only limit is your creativity and imagination!

Free Ways To Get Involved!
One of the easiest ways to get involved is to spread the message. Whether it’s by word of mouth or posting on social media! If you tell 5 people and even just 1 tells more people, think of the ripple effect of positive change! It’s important to not get down on yourself for not going all out. ANY bit of effort you make WILL make that much more of a difference!
Another easy way to get involved is by simply taking some time out in nature. Think about all the things you love about it, what you’re grateful for. Think about even the tiniest actions you can take over this year to do your part and help conserve nature! I’m grateful for the sun. The light it brings, the warmth it gives, the boost in my mood! What about you?
Specific Ways To Get Involved!
Volunteer at your local zoo, museum, or aquarium and encourage them to celebrate World Wildlife Day. Help a local wild rescue shelter or teach tourists (or even other locals!) about your local habitat and how to protect and preserve it. Become an ambassador for nature and become a WWF member for chances to sign petitions, learn about current issues, and more!
Launch a campaign linked to WWD made specific to a local issue, like a local clean-up in your community park or hiking trails. Involve others or share your work to inspire others! The official website dedicated to World Wildlife Day has tons of information on ways to get involved! And like I said, it’s really only limited to your creativity and imagination!
Other Ways To Get Involved!
Going back to WWF, they have the option to symbolically adopt an animal of almost every species to exist! And the cool part is, (well, there’s a few!) that for the donation fee to adopt an animal, not only does that secure you an annual membership, but you get a plush toy representing that animal!
Two of the species that I know need major efforts in conservancy is honeybees and monarch butterflies. And the cool part about that is that each of those plush toys through WWF come with 2 mini plushes of the same kind! Each adoption kit also comes with a certificate of adoption as well as an info card about the species itself!
Doing Our Part, Collectively
I can’t say it enough that when even just one person makes an effort to do their part to make a difference, ripple effects start to happen. Whether you’re spreading the message vocally or inspiring others through your efforts! It all adds up! So for this WWD, I’m personally going to spread the message as far and wide as I can. I’m going to make an effort to show my appreciation and to consume responsibly.
There really is no limit on what we can do! And by being a part of the ETM community, you are already making a bigger difference than you know. Thank you for your effort to make a safe and better planet for this generation, and those to come. Join discussions, interact with Mommas and others alike, and be unapologetically yourself! Until next time, I hope I’m able to help make your life as simple as could be. (:
With all my love, Brandolyn – Earth To Momma
